One of the most common ailments, aside from the "pain of labor", is whiplash. In a lot of ways, the main cause of this painful affliction is the manner in which an accident occurs to the body when you are involved in an accident. This will then transfer back to your neck and spine, resulting in severe damage that can be quite uncomfortable.
Of course, the first time one suffers from whiplash injury is when they suffer an accident that involves the neck. You should also know that there are several kinds of whiplash injuries, all of which are very different from each other. The injury that you get can be broken down into four major categories. The categories are classified as follows:
- Cerebrovascular Accident - When a large amount of blood is somehow trapped inside the neck or shoulders due to some kind of injury. The kind of accident that would create this condition would be a fall or some kind of collision. If this happens, you would be struck in the neck which causes a sharp shock to be released into the spine.
- Horizontal Force-Horizontal force is what most of us think of when we see whiplash. This is caused by many types of accidents that would include being struck from behind, causing you to lose your balance and eventually fall. Again, this injury is caused by the release of a shock into the spinal cord.
- Twisting Injury - This injury is caused by twisting of the neck while in any kind of vehicle accident. This also happens in other accidents where you may twist your neck to the right or left and have the cervical vertebrae twist out of place. These would cause a fall to occur which puts stress on the neck.
- Trapezius injury - This injury is caused by the twisting of the neck and shoulders, while in a motor vehicle accident. It is because of this that the trapezius muscle is affected.
These are the four main types of whiplash and how they are caused by a horizontal force. If you are experiencing symptoms of whiplash, you should seek medical attention immediately so that you can receive the proper treatment and make sure that you do not get worse.
It is highly suggested that you visit a doctor who can properly diagnose and even recommend physical therapy to help you deal with your condition. A lot of people do not understand how the condition is actually made and how it happens, but it is vital that you do your best to be familiar with the things that you need to know so that you can be proactive and prepare yourself for what is about to happen.
